The Riviera Theater
In 1939, The Riviera opened as Charleston’s first movie theater—but by the time it was acquired by BHC in 2021, it had not been open to the public in 45 years. Today, this spectacular 600-seat venue hosts more than 30 live performances per year, including music, comedy, and theater. An upcoming major renovation will upgrade The Riviera with state-of-the-art audiovisual systems.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Riviera is a striking example of the rare Egyptian Art Deco style. After decades of disrepair, a $5.5 million restoration in 1995 brought it back to life. BHC has continued to lovingly restore this architectural gem, integrating modern technology to support a wide range of performances and private events.
