American Gardens
American Gardens is a nearly one-acred green space in the heart of downtown Charleston, created by BHC in November 2025 as a permanent contribution to the local community. Spanning a full city block, the park’s formal layout features nearly 200 mature trees, two four-tiered custom fountains, and year-round public programming.

In October 2022, the Post & Courier published an op-ed titled “Is Charleston losing its last chance for a central park downtown?” At the time, the city had no such park, and the only viable plot of land was a parking lot slated to become a condo development. BHC acquired the site, assembled a team including visionary landscape designers Rees Roberts + Partners, and created American Gardens.
